Botswana
Sheilla

Age: 21
Sheilla is a student from Gaborone in Botswana, currently studying an AAT Diploma. She entered Big Brother Hotshots because she believes that “it’s a platform for people like me who were born for the spotlight. It puts us out there to succeed in our careers – in my case, my music career”. She’s excited that the whole continent will be watching her: “it is like interacting within the house with someone invisible, or a ghost, and the thought of what they think just gives you an adrenaline rush”.
She says her best quality is that she analyses things before overreacting in certain situations. She likes people who are communicative because it helps her see what they think of her and how she should behave around them. She dislikes bossy people and “people with similar strands of personality to me”.
She likes to eat prawns and rice, as well as pap and beef. Her favourite book is In The Meantime and her top TV shows include Big Brother Africa, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and How Do I look? She enjoys the music of Beyonce, K.O., AKA and Tamela Mann and says her favourite actors are Cameron Diaz and Dwayne Johnson. Her favourite films also include The Hunger Games, Wrong Turn, The Break of Dawn and Mean Girls.
Sheilla’s favourite part of Botswana is the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and says that the best thing about Africa is “the diverse but highly-principled cultures which Africans tend not to leave behind”. She says that Las Vegas is her favourite place outside of Africa, because “it is a crazy, forever jolly holiday destination.

She has a long list of favourite TV shows: Upishi Xtra, Gavana, Orange Is The New Black, Smurfs, Devious Maids, Long Island, Oprah’s Next Chapter and Masterclass.
She entered Big Brother Hotshots to win the money and change her life, and the lives of others. “It’s something I’ve envisioned for a long time and it’ll give me a chance to show Africa that I’m a star,” she says. “I can entertain, but I’m also a human with problems, just like anybody else“.
If she wins the money, she’ll leave it alone for a month before buying a house, spoil her family with a holiday, build her Grandmother a house, save towards her daughter’s education, support her adopted charities and invest in her business.
South Africa
Samantha
Age: 29
Big Brother Africa Hotshots - Bellanaija - September2014002
Self-employed former law student Samantha is from Potchefstroom in South Africa’s North West Province. She loves sushi and Indian food and her favourite TV shows include 2 Broke Girls and Person of Interest, and she likes the music of Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Davido and Drake.
Her favourite films include Ice Age, Madagascar, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and This Is Forty, with Angelina Jolie her favourite actor because “she’s strong, yet feminine and an amazing actress“.
Her favourite place in South Africa is Johannesburg, and she says the best thing about Africa is “the diversity of the people and the cultures“. Her favourite city outside the continent is Jerusalem, which she calls “a beautiful place“. Samantha says her sister is her role model, because “she’s inspired me to be so much more and has played a huge role in my life“.
Samantha was inspired to enter Big Brother Hotshots, something she’s wanted to do for “a very long time” because she finds cultures fascinating “and the thought of spending time with so many people from so many backgrounds is awesome“.
If she wins the grand prize, Samantha will help the orphanages she volunteers at and take her sisters on holiday, before investing the rest.
She describes herself as “adventurous, random, witty, caring and honest” – the final trait being her favourite. It’s also something she values in others, despising dishonesty and rude people.

Nigerian housemate in Big Brother

A Nigerian Housemate has been revealed for the Big Brother Africa show scheduled to kick off on October 5. She is Lilian aka Sexy Lily. Lillian is a model, actor, presenter, and tax collector! She entered Big Brother
Hotshots for “the platform it provides and the publicity that comes with it, and of course the winning prize – the money”.

Lillian disclosed that she’s not willing to sell herself short to win the grand prize. If she does win, she’ll invest in her talk show, which is about “helping upcoming talents” and get herself a house.
Lilian’s favourite foods are rice and plantain. She likes watching Baggage on TV and listening to Tuface

Idibia. She doesn’t have a favourite book, but likes movies like Think Like A Man, Blended, Friends With Benefits, Bridesmaids, and Twelve Years A Slave. Her favourite actor is Angelina Jolie, because “she’s creative and can switch roles easily”.

According to Lilian, her favourite place in Nigeria is Lagos and the best thing about Africa is its cultural diversity. Outside her home country, she’d like to visit California for the opportunities she believes it would provide her to improve her career.

Lilian’s role model is Oprah Winfrey, because of her strength, and the person who has most influenced her life is her mother, “because she has always believed in me and encouraged me to follow my dreams”.

The Housemate describes herself as “spontaneous, easy-going, focused and confident”, saying her best assets are that she’s ambitious, a good listener, flexible, persuasive, competitive, independent and original.

Speaking on the reality show, M-Net Africa Regional Director (West Africa), Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, says the viewers are in for almost as many surprises as the housemates. “We work hard to make each season of Big Brother Africa bigger than the last – and we’ve really upped the ante this year,” she says. “Big Brother

Hotshots is going to bring viewers exciting innovations, heart-stopping twists and uniquely African glamour, 24/7 for the duration of their stay in the house. Both fans and housemates are in for some unmissable television experience!”

Pokello designs shoe line

The first batch of pigalle/pointy designer shoes was released last week with all of them being designed by her and made in Italy. The former Big Brother Africa (BBA) housemate whose love for shoes is known across Africa said she had always dreamt of having her own shoe line.

“I’m thrilled by this achievement as it is a big step for me. I’m addicted to shoes and have always wanted to make my own shoes instead of buying them from other people,” said Nare.

She said she decided to study shoe designing online with a college in Italy, where most shoes are made, so as to make her dream a reality.

“I decided to do an online course on shoe designing with a school in Italy. The one year course assisted me to understand the basics of shoe making, how to do the actual design and the logistics that come with the business.”

After completing her course, the “addicted to shoes boss” came up with her own designs which she took to Italy a few months ago. In Italy, Nare partnered with a shoe company which guided her on the designs and assisted her to manufacture them.

“I did the shoe designs but the guys in Italy perfected the designs and shoe sizes for me,” she said.

The lass who is famous for her love of bright pink lipstick included the signature eye-catching aspect on her brand of shoes.

Nare, who returned to the country from Italy last week said her shoe line was inspired by her favourite designers, Sophia Webster for her feminine and soft colours, Sergio Rossi for his seductive shapes and elegant lines and Christian Louboutin for his signature trait and dizzy heights.

“I have incorporated all those elements but paid more attention to the feet of African women who sometimes have to squeeze their wide feet into narrow made shoes without ample room for their toes to sit comfortably,” she said adding that the shoe line would be launched on December 1.

Big Brother Africa hotshots housemates

The wait for this year’s Big Brother Africa reality TV show after a month delay is down to one week from today.
Housemates will battle for a cool $300,000 USD first place prize money in a 60 days competition residing inside the BBA house starting Sunday October 5th 2014.
Season 9 Hotshots was initially delayed due to a devastating fire that caused major damages to the studio where the production for the show was done.
Organizers moved quickly to find a new home for Africa’s most popular reality TV program to enable the show hit the screens in 2014.
The brains behind the show have also introduced a new formular of introducing the housemates to the public before the actual launch date and in the past week have made the identity of most housemates known. See below for the list of housemates

First Hotshots revealed

So far we have introduced you to fifteen of the Big Brother Hotshots that will be on your screens in just over a week. We’ve met a host of very strong characters mixed with creative and bubbly personalities.

Confidence is a quality that all of the housemates seem to have in common. Macky2 from Zambia, Mr265 and Luis’ six-pack have this in buckets full. Luis from Namibia is extremely proud of his 6-pack, and Lilian from Nigeria oozes sex appeal, she even promises to "twerk for you,” Africa. Alusa of Kenya says that, "you will always be entertained by this sexy man.” It seems there is a reigning beauty queen in Uganda's Ellah, the 23 year old says that her alter ego is the "crazy one, bitchy and a straight talker." How will this go over with the other housemates? Ellah and Esther represent Uganda, and whilst one is almost arrogant in her assessment of herself, the other has a sparkling personality but will not stand for anybody "putting her into a conflict if she does not deserve to be there."

A common assessment is that most won't walk around the house naked. Idris, the 21-year-old photographer from Tanzania will not walk naked in the house, as he “will scare somebody I am an African” he adds. Ellah, however, confesses that she will shower naked in the house. Something we are sure will raise many a temperature across the continent. Most of the housemates just want to have a good laugh and experience?

A lack of strategy going into the house is a common answer when asked if they have a strategy to win. The majority of the housemates say that strategies change as the time goes on and as the pressure mounts in the house. It’s only once all of the cliques have been set and the game is in full swing that they can really devise a strategy. Will the pet peeves start to influence how the audience vote? Will Goitse annoy people as she "talks too much?” People annoy Idris “… who think they know too much.” These are only some of the pet-peeve confessions that the housemates have submitted. Will they be able to avoid confrontation when there seems to be some strong, opinionated and straight talkers in the house? Perhaps the dislike of confrontation will keep these opinions in check.

With so many charming, complex, engaging, disarming, sexy, spontaneous, fun and exciting characters on display, Big Brother Africa promises explosive entertainment. We won’t know if these egos will clash or if will there be sparks flying in the house as each tries to outdo the other, but one thing that all of them can be sure about is the Africa will be watching…

Esther AK Finally Makes It to Big Brother Africa

She has been auditioning for Africa's hottest show, Big Brother Africa, for the last so many years and not going through, but this time around, Esther Akankwasa was the lucky one. She will be representing the country with the reigning Miss Uganda, Stella Nantumbwe also known as Ellah in the Big Brother Hotshots house.
The show kicks off in less than 9 days. Earlier reports had indicated that a Nigerian Oga was to represent the country but after the housemates were unveiled on the M-Net website, it turned out that the Naijaman was off the list.
Who is Esther?
Esther has tried out singing, dancing under the now defunct Cyclone group, she also models, got married to Nico Damminger and after 9 months, the marriage was dissolved, been auditioning for all the previous Big Brother shows and not going through. Her tagline is 'Confidence is never borrowed or stolen', so BBA fans had better be on the look out for Uganda's Esther in the Hotshots house.
Esther will be wining up her body in the house, not so sure if any Big Brother Gal will beat the pint-sized model as she has got it all. This is the first time Uganda is being represented by female housemates only.

BBA Hotshots housemates: Meet Permithias, Nhlanhla & Resa

Do you have a favourite for Big Brother Africa Hotshots already? The competition starts next month and the contestants are still rolling in – can’t wait for the actual show to start! But for now check out the 6th set of housemates below. Meet Permithias from Namibia, Nhlanhla from South Africa and Resa from Zambia.

Permithias, 25, Namibia: Professional sushi chef Permithias unsurprisingly lists sushi as one of his favourite foods, alongside pizza. He doesn’t have a favourite book, but enjoys watching The Originals on TV. A fan of animation, Permithias’ favourite films are Turbo and Happy Feet, while he also likes the music of Chris Brown, James Blunt and Joe Tomas.

His mom is his role model, because she provided for the family with “nothing but blood, sweat and tears’. He is the eldest of five children; he has three sisters and a brother. Permithias says that becoming a chef is his greatest achievement so far, because it ‘opened a window” for himself and his family

He was inspired to enter Big Brother Hotshots because he’s been watching the show for years but won’t sell his soul or lose his self-worth in the process. Asked how he feels knowing that the whole continent will be watching him 24/7, he says: “scared, but it will all come together the way it should”.

If he wins, he’ll take care of his Mom and open his own restaurant.

Permithias says he’s easy-going, open-minded and ‘down for whatever is fun’ and enjoys others who are also open-minded.

Nhlanhla, 24, South Africa: Nhlanhla is from Witbank in South Africa, and is a Business Analyst, Actor and Model with an Honours degree in Information Systems. He loves fresh butternut soup, lamb shank & vegetables and cottage cheese pie. His favourite books include Animal Farm and The Great Gatsby and he enjoys Game of Thrones, Shameless, Suits and Heroes on TV. He lists Brad Pitt and Will Smith as two of his favourite actors.

His favourite place in South Africa is the Groenkloof Nature Reserve in Pretoria and the best things about the continent as a whole are the people and their strength & resilience. Amsterdam made a big impression on him at a young age when he went there and learnt a lot about himself and personal growth.

His mother is his role model, because she sacrificed a lot to get him where he is today and taught him a great many things. Together with his Grandmother, she has influenced his life a great deal because they were always strong-willed and gently guided him through life.

Nhlanhla entered Big Brother Hotshots because he’s been a fan ever since he saw his first season on DStv. “I just knew that I wanted to be on the show myself, and wanted to take the opportunity to have my personality spread all over the world”. He thinks having the continent’s eyes on him 24/7 will be “nerve-wracking”, but says it’s a great feeling knowing he’ll be watched by the continent and can influence the viewers.

He describes himself as “crazy, eccentric, narcissistic, energetic and spiritual” and enjoys the fact that he’s always positive and optimistic, and always sees the beauty in others.

Resa, 25, Zambia: Lusaka-born Resa is an Event Planner, MC and Public Speaker. She entered Big Brother Hotshots in the hope of winning the grand prize and being able to pay off her mother’s debts. “She has moved heaven and earth to ensure that I get my honours degree and in the process she has incurred debts,” says Resa. She’s “extremely nervous, but delighted at the same time” at the prospect of having the continent’s eyes on her 24/7. She says the viewers can expect ‘realness’ from her. “No pretence, I’m an open book, I don’t hide my struggles because they’ve shaped me into who I am and I’ve used them as stepping stones,” she says. “Also, lots of dancing and definitely lots of laughter!”

Resa describes herself as “unique, colourful, bubbly, random and hyper”, saying that her inquisitive nature means that she won’t suffer in silence. “I’m apologetic, my outspoken nature, I’m a go-getter, open-minded and spontaneous,” she says.

Nigeria: Meet Lillian Afegbai, Nigeria's Face At BBA Season 9

MNet has unveiled the first Nigerian housemate for Season 9 of Big Brother Africa and her name is Lillian. The show tagged "Hotshots" is scheduled to begin in South Africa on Sunday, October 5.
Lillian Afegbai is a 22-year old Nigerian model, actress and TV presenter. She has appeared in Tinsel, an Mnet series and is a friend to Denrele Edun, a media personality. She resigned her job in August to be part of the Big Brother Africa, BBA, reality show.
