Hemline to Share Ramp With Polikem Fashion Train

Namibia's fashion show season is in full swing and excitement is palpable with a number of shows taking place almost every weekend. This weekend, a unique show with a host of international designers is set to light up the local fashion scene.
One of Namibian fashion's leading lights, Hem Matsi will be headlining the show alongside Elikem 'The Tailor' Kumordzi and Pokello Nare, both of Big Brother Africa fame.
In addition to the three, an Italian designer will also be part of the show, as well as Ruusa Namuhuya, Beverly Kaposiao and McBright Kavari who are all Namibian. The visit by the reality show stars comes as no surprise as they had promised The Namibian that Namibians can definitely expect them before the year ends.
"The idea for the fashion show came to me after I spoke to a friend of mine who is involved in tourism. She pitched the idea of using fashion and tourism to integrate Namibia with other countries", said Matsi. She adds that it will be an ideal platform to celebrate Namibian fashion and culture.
With the cultural celebration in mind, Matsi's collection is made up mainly of clothes made from African prints and Odelela in particular. Odelela is the pink striped Owambo traditional fabric.
Ruusa Namuhuya has a more simplistic description of the clothes that she will be showing on Saturday, calling her collection 'ready-to-wear with a twist'.
The Namibian designers do not rule out showcasing in their guest designers' countries as well.
"The whole fashion show is about integrating with other countries so we are definitely planning on taking our collections to other African countries soon," said Namuhuya.
Matsi promises a great surprise for guests. Making the event more special will be the appearance of former Miss Namibia and Miss Universe, Michelle McLean-Bailey, as the host for the evening.
The show takes place on Saturday at Wernhil Park's new parking lot on the top floor. Normal tickets are N$250 and VIP tickets are going for N$1 000.
The show starts at 19h00.
